The private beta · Setup guide

Welcome to
Memoed.

A few small steps, and your voice memos can start doing more. Let’s get you settled in.

Let’s get started
  1. Make room on your Mac.

Use the private download link in your invitation. Memoed’s installer works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Open the downloaded disk image, drag Memoed to Applications, and launch it from there.

Download links expire after seven days. Ask the person who invited you for a fresh link if you need one.

  2. Make it yours.

Open Settings with ⌘ , and enter the license key from your invitation. You’ll need an internet connection to activate it.

Your access period is shown in Settings. Connect at least once every seven days to refresh your license validation.

  3. Let Memoed lend an ear.

Memoed asks for Microphone access when you start recording. Enable Speech Recognition when you want to create transcripts on your Mac. Importing and playing audio do not need either permission.

Apple Voice Memos is optional. To include its recordings, turn on Connect Apple Voice Memos in Settings and grant Full Disk Access. If macOS asks you to quit and reopen Memoed, do so. Let iCloud recordings finish downloading in Apple’s app before using them here.

  4. Say a little something.

Click Record in Memoed, speak a few words, then stop, name, and save the recording. You can pause and resume along the way. Choose your microphone in Settings or use your Mac’s system default.

You can also import M4A, MP3, and WAV files. Recording and importing work without an Apple Voice Memos connection. Connecting Apple adds existing recordings without running pipelines.

  5. Give your memo a next step.

Create a pipeline and add a Save to folder destination. Choose audio, transcript, or both. Turn on Create a transcript if you want Memoed to produce text, or add a webhook or script you control.

Run pipelines automatically in Settings runs pipelines marked Run on new recordings after you save or import audio, or receive a new Apple recording. Turn it off to run pipelines manually.

Retrying a pipeline repeats its actions, so a webhook can be sent again. Scripts have a five-minute timeout.

A note on privacy

Your voice. Your control.

Transcription uses embedded text or on-device Apple Speech. Language support depends on your Mac and its installed speech resources. Recognition never falls back to a server.

Webhooks and custom scripts can send audio and transcripts to the destinations you configure.

While we’re in beta

Cloud transcription and chat are not part of this beta. Keep your original recordings and avoid relying on the beta as your only archive.
